Stainless Steel Yuan Series D Minor – Kurd 10 – 440hz

Mysterious and meditative, the Kurd scale is among the most popular Hand Pan Scales ever made as it is basically a full minor scale. It was first popularized on Handpans by Victor Levinson, who builds the SPB. As one of the earliest builders, he crafted mostly D Kurd instruments for numerous years and first used the name “Kurd” to refer to his instruments in D Minor.   The scale variation was greatly welcomed at a time when D Minor instruments were very common due to Panart production of the “Integral” Hang®, which was a hexatonic variation of D Minor. Numerous early viral videos by Hang Massive, Daniel Waples, and David Swarup also helped the popularity of D Minor Handpans.

The name “Kurd” comes from Arabic music and is short for Kurd Maqam, where “Maqam” is synonymous with “scale”.

The scale has been further popularized by Sam Maher, in his viral video of a C# Kurd, which has been also referred to as “Annaziska”.

As a full diatonic minor, it is also sometimes referred to as Aeolian mode in western music theory.  This “natural minor” offers everything a minor scale can offer.  It can be mysterious and meditative, but also dark and full of tension or bright, positive and uplifting depending on which chords are played. This leads to great diversity and many possibilities to explore.  It also plays flawlessly with F major and G Dorian.

Our newest “Yuan” Series includes our most popular scales.   It is the synthesis of a new design layout and marble like finish combined with our time tested experience and skill.  These instruments are made from the same steel and note architecture as our Professional Series.  One of the primary differences is the shoulder tones around the center note are tuned on the Professional Series, which is a fine detail that can sometimes take as much time and energy as tuning every other note on the instrument combined, hence the difference in price.  This unique instrument is formed from stainless steel and comes with Free Shipping up to $200, an Namana carrying case and microfiber cloth.

10 reviews for Kurd 10 D Minor Stainless Steel Yuan Series Handpan

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

After playing many handpans, including plenty of cheaper brands, the Saraz D Minor Kurd 10 is in a completely different league. The tone is pure, clear and very well tuned. The sustain is exceptional and hypnotic, and the stability across all 10 notes is flawless. It’s also a beautiful instrument with an eye catching texture. If you’re debating whether a Saraz is worth the investment over a budget handpan, the answer is absolutely yes. This thing has ruined me for ever playing the cheap stuff again

I have wanted a handpan for years and was finally able to purchase one. I chose the D Kurd because of how popular it is and how many online lessons use it. I really couldn’t be happier. The scale is captivating and dynamic. It resonates beautifully with gorgeous sustain. I feel like I have been meditating after I play it or in a dream. Thanks so much Saraz Crew!

You can immediately tell this wasn’t mass-produced. The attention to detail in the architecture of the shells and the precision of the tuning is world-class.

I was nervous about shipping such a delicate instrument, but the team answered all my questions. The packaging was bulletproof, and the handpan itself is a dream.

As a percussionist, I am impressed by the dynamic range of this pan. It projects beautifully without losing its warm, rich characteristics, and the stainless steel looks amazing under stage lights. Truly a performer’s dream! The crosstalk between notes is non-existent, which is rare for an instrument with this much sustain. It’s a top-tier piece of gear for serious musicians.

A mesmerizing instrument crafted by true masters. Worth every single cent. Stellar customer service, fast shipping, and a handpan that sounds like a choir of angels. Highly recommend!

The buying process was seamless. The pan arrived safely packaged, and the sound quality is excellent. It’s rare to find an instrument of this caliber, much less backed by such supportive, passionate makers. I am already saving up for my next Saraz.

You can tell this company truly cares about their customers and their work speaks for itself. My handpan sounds absolutely divine.
