How (not) to repair or retune your own hand pan

June 3, 2019

Home / Handpan Construction / How (not) to repair or retune your own hand pan

This is a before and after video of Josh Rivera repairing a C# Minor Saraz after a customer tried to repair it themselves. The instrument was initially dropped with one note knocked out of tune. After the customer hammered on it for awhile, most of the instrument was out of tune. At this point, the person accepted that they needed to send it back to us for a more expensive repair than initial quoted.

There are no quality steel tuners in the world that haven’t spent at least 1000 hours or far more learning to tune. Even understanding the process doesn’t give one the tactile ability of muscle memory to do it well (as all young tuners discover).

If you need a tune up or a repair, please send it to a professional.
