Hello everyone, Mark here, founder, imagineer, and ring leader at Saraz.
As the only tuner at Saraz until the end of 2015, it was such an amazing treat and enormous relief to bring on Sir Josh Rivera as our second tuner. Since that time, it has been delightful to watch him become what I sincerely believe is one of the very best tuners on this side of the solar system.
Over the past few months, I have been training two more tuners.
First, I am very happy to welcome my old friend Rebecca Dancyger to the Saraz Team. As a tuner and Builder at Aura Handpans, and then the founder of Spirit Handpans, she has been working in the same building as us for about two years. It was really only a matter of time before the synergy started blooming. I have spent the last 5 months sharing with her some of the finer intricacies of how the Saraz is tuned as we collaborated on a few instruments. I am most delighted however to share with you all one of the first Saraz that she has tuned entirely solo. The scale is one of our most popular, a C# Celtic minor.
The second person that I have been training over the last 4 months is someone who is among the most dear to my heart and soul. It is my father, affectionately known on the crew as Papa Steve, who is one of the co-founders of Saraz. He joined me not long after I made the very first Saraz prototype and has been an integral part of the project for 6 years now. It is a new and exciting part of our relationship to begin sharing in the challenges and complications of tuning singing Steel. Quite engaging Father and Son bonding to say the least! Although it will likely be a year or two before we will have a Saraz entirely tuned by Papa Steve, we are having a truly wonderful time collaborating on a number of Saraz together as he patiently and persistently evolves into one of the next best tuners on this side of the Galaxy.
With all of this tuning going on, it means that we expect to increase our production in 2019 significantly. We are eagerly working toward actually being able to maintain some of our most popular scale variations consistently in stock. At least, we are going to do our best. 😉
